The flange octagonal gasket is a solid metal gasket with a cross-sectional shape of octagonal made of metal material through forging, heat treatment, and mechanical processing. It has a radial self tightening sealing effect and is a type of standard R-shaped metal gasket. Its working principle is that the gasket contacts the inner and outer surfaces (mainly the outer surface) of the flange ladder groove, and is compressed to form a sealing effect.
Flange octagonal gasket rings are commonly used in pipe flanges, tower tanks, pressure vessels, high-speed joint surfaces, high-temperature and high-pressure valves, and covers for high-temperature and high-pressure steam, gas, and solvent applications.
The wellhead equipment and sealing metal gaskets on Christmas trees in the petroleum and natural gas industry were first used in the boiler field in the 1920s, and later used for sealing manhole covers, high-pressure reactors, and other windows. They were particularly valued in the petroleum production and refining industry. As the temperature and pressure of steam power plants increase, the use of metal gaskets becomes increasingly widespread.
